I have posted quite a few posts on basswood blinds and this post will still be about the same subject. The reason for this is that this material is one of the most versatile materials that you can use for shades in your windows since you can have it in a lot of different finishes, but also you can easily re-finish them yourself, and avoid the costs of purchasing new ones every time you feel like changing your interior desing.

The easiest way to re-finish your blinds is to simply take them apart, and go through them with sand paper and then add a new layer of varnish. This is the same with all real wood blinds, as they will not suffer from smoothing them up. If you would have metallic blinds, it would be more difficult, but still you could be able to pull it out. But with plastic shades you can never really do anything to make them better, and they also suffer really much from time. Like for example if you would have one of those plastic blinds they would first of all start losing their color because of the sun. After this they start losing their shape, and if you try to fix them you are only going to ruin them – so you are better off purchasing new ones.

Buying basswood blinds is like buying anything that is high quality, since the material alone will make it worth it. It is a timber that grows all around the world almost making it readily available. The best part is that the grain is very large – as is the radius of the trees – making it smooth and easy to smooth down. You can get a great surface on the wood that is both soft and natural. Wood blinds are by far the best investment that you can make if you are looking for a versatile solution for your home. You can get them vertical, horizontal, 1 inch wide, 2 inch wide – basically you can get them made to measure in any way you want. This is because they can be easily made, and don’t require special molds like metallic and plastic ones usually need.

When it comes to comparing natural wooden blinds to any other material, there is also the cleaning part that comes to play. Sure you are going to have to be careful what type of detergent you use with a natural material like this, but if you are sensible, you will realize that even with a light coat of oil you can get a lot done. You should just clean basswood blinds in a simple manner, without making it too complicated. Why do you want to do this? Well the first thing is that if you aren’t smoking inside the house, they will not get really dirty. If you are, there will be the small particles that are going to stick to the slants, and you will either have to re-finish the slants, and maybe even some other parts. The most usualy maintenance that you need to do is to clean the dust off them, and a regular duster will do just fine for this task. The more often you remove the excess dirt the longer your window blinds will be in a good condition, and you will in the long run save quite a lot of money.

If you purchased oiled blinds, you will though need to add a new coat every now and then to keep the finish looking great,  but that is not going to be expensive, as basically any typi of cooking oil that you can find, will do the trick – it is mainly just about adding a water restistant oily coat to the wood.
